Elf On The Shelf: Introductions

I shall dedicate the next couple posts to the little devil who torments fellow parents far and wide this time of year.  His or Her name is different in every household – ours is called Elsa the Elf.  Said devil is The Elf On The Shelf.  We didn’t have this nugget when I was a kid, but some brilliant person is making millions now (go you!) because as a parent who loves to spread the magic of the Holidays you can’t really be the only house on the block that isn’t visited by an Elf.  Right?

In all seriousness kiddos love The Elf on the Shelf.   It’s an awesome way to have some holiday fun with the kids. If you get creative, Mom and Dad can have some good old fashioned fun as well.

Year after year, children and adults alike are baffled by the mystery of how Santa really knows who’s been naughty or nice. After much urging by the elves and Mrs. Claus, Santa has allowed his biggest secret to be revealed in The Elf on the Shelf: A Christmas Tradition. At the start of each Christmas season, the elf appears to serve as Santa’s eyes and ears, traveling back to the North Pole each and every night to make a detailed report of the day’s activities. Children can register their elf online to receive an official adoption certificate and a special letter from Santa.

How To Get Started
  • Get an Elf: This is obviously a given.  You can get an elf here. Plus, if you’re so inclined you can get some super cute outfits for your elf, if it (or you) has any fashion sense.
  • Pick  when you want the Elf to arrive. This can be any time in November or December. But remember they will come daily once you start until Christmas Eve.  Our Elf arrives on December 1st.
  • Decide how your Elf is going to make their appearance. For us, the first time was  on December 1st. Our elf was waiting for our kiddos on our dining room table along with her handy dandy Christmas book and a welcome letter.  The book will go over all the fun of the Elf as well as the rules – namely NO TOUCHING. It’s fun to pair an elf coming with a little note or an advent calendar too.
